Did you know that Alzheimer’s impacts over 5.4 million people today; is projected to impact 15-16 million by the year 2050; and at a cost of over a trillion dollars per year? This insidious disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and the only one out of the top ten with no methods of preventing or slowing it down. And, even scarier than that, studies reveal that about 60% of family-caregivers are dying before the patient because of the 24/7 stress of taking care of their loved one. In Oklahoma alone, the number of people who will suffer from Alzheimer’s will double in the next ten years.

This is why it’s critical to focus on this disease; educate the public on it; invest in research; and help families navigate the issues that arise when a loved one has Alzheimer’s. In this video, Larry Parman interviews Randle Lee, the Regional Director of the Oklahoma and Arkansas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, to discuss the vision and mission of the Alzheimer’s Association; how their organization helps families navigate these issues; and an exciting Education Conference coming up in November 2012 in Oklahoma!
