Elders Must Stay Focused To Prevent Falls

April 23, 2012 by Larry Parman, Attorney at Law

Oklahoma City elder law attorneys are available to assist clients as they prepare for the eventualities of aging. This includes, but is not limited to, making sure that people have the financial resources that they need to enjoy their retirement years and handle health care and long-term care costs.

At the same time, you have to keep yourself healthy if you are going to be able to enjoy your golden years regardless of how much money you have put away. There is a financial connection to good health as well, because the fewer medical bills you get in the mail the more money you have to spend on other things.

With the above in mind, one thing to be aware of when you are approaching senior citizen status is the possibility of suffering from a fall. Everyone knows that you should exercise caution when you are getting around, but you may be surprised to hear that one third of senior citizens will suffer from a fall someday, and the results are often much worse than a scraped up knee.

According to statistics provided by the National Council On Aging, an older adult passes away virtually every half-hour after suffering from a fall. Falls cause more fatalities than any other type of injury inducing event.

One momentary lapse of judgment can change everything forever. Take the necessary precautions, keep yourself physically strong through resistance exercises and stay focused to prevent falls as you enter into the latter stages of your life.
